What is DOTS
Heavier lifters lift more, so absolute weight is not a fair comparison. DOTS adjusts your total for body weight. It is used in many powerlifting federations to pick the best lifter of a competition.
Levels
- Below 200: starting level.
- 200–299: intermediate — regular training for 1–3 years.
- 300–399: advanced.
- 400–499: competitive level.
- 500+: elite, national and international level.
These levels are approximate and are for motivation. Compare yourself mainly with your own past results.
Questions and answers
DOTS or Wilks — which is better?
DOTS is a newer formula from 2019 based on more recent results. Wilks was used for decades and gives similar numbers for most lifters.
Can I calculate DOTS with only one lift?
Yes, you will get a score for that lift. To compare with powerlifting totals, enter all three lifts.
Do equipment and belts matter?
The formula does not take equipment into account. Compare numbers with lifters who use the same equipment.
